Hi Everyone,

We were just talking about tires and flats and here we go. Got a rock split flat the other day. Need a new tire. Please see three pictures below. I don't have a tread gauge.

I usually do a five tire rotation. My question is: should I rotate the new tire into a five tire rotation or leave it as a spare based on the current tire wear of the four remaining tires? Leave the spare new and continue with a four tire rotation?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Also @JohnGalt any update on the ARB Bushmaster x? I just ordered one to use in conjunction with my bottle jack and jack stand (safetyjack) and the scissor jack provided. I just experienced the bottle jack not lifting high enough to remove the tire. I have a few attachments for height but they are no good unless you can get them under the truck before you start. With the Bushmaster x I will have options for lifting and support with the safetyjack. Thanks for the Bushmaster x video.

I would use the new replacement tire as a dedicated spare, for now, and do 4 tire rotations with those original 4. Because, it appears you will be also replacing the other 4 in the near future, then you can go back to a 5 tire rotation starting with 5 new tires. This requires the new replacement tire to match size, brand, and model your planning for future tires.
Or... go for all 5 new tires now rather than risking another flat.

Thanks. Yeah they are pretty beat up. My brain kind of went to change them all but couldn't handle the reality.

No updates on the Bushmaster sunce video. The OEM scissor jack will get the tire off the ground with the extension installed (did you try it?). But I only feel safe with that on flat level ground. Conversely you can use it to raise the truck a bit then use bottle jack with extensions to serve as a jack stand or raise even higher.

Jacking these babies up and changing a tire under FUBAR conditions safely is a challenge!

I ended up using the scissor jack as I was on flat ground. I figure I will use the scissor on flat ground. In other situations I will use the Bushmaster x to raise and then use the Safetyjack bottle jack and jack stand as well. I should be good for most situations. That is why I was looking for other options seeing I would not want to use the scissor jack unless on flat ground. Appreciated.

I think I will stick with these tires for now and the new tire as a spare and change the remaining four after King of Hammers. A lot of KOH is sandy and not crazy rocky like I was on the other day. I will also slow down a bit on really rough stuff. The Raptor can handle it easy but the tires take a beating as you know.

Thanks

I absolutely love my Badlands 3-ton off-road jack. Fast, reliable, bullet-proof and easy to use in sand, mud, rock, and garage. Makes my 5-tire rotations a breeze. Only con is it needs some storage space.

P.S. agree with spare tire decision until you get a set of 4 new tires, then start up with the 5-tire ratation, which can turn a 50K-mile warranty into 65K-70K miles.

Great thank you. You can't go wrong with 3 ton! I just may end up with one at some point.
