New to the forum, I did a search and didn’t see this addressed. Apologies if I missed it.

I live in a winter weather area and am eager to step up to 38 or 39” mud tires. To accomplish this I want to do a conservative lift that won’t ride like my f250. This live valve suspension is great! I have a spacer lift on my wife’s outer banks and it does the job for her. It’s tempting to do the same but I don’t want to cheap out on this raptor. Collars that increase preload seem fishy to me in that they will make the truck ride stiff. I have Icon dual rate springs on my f250 and they take a lot of the harshness out but I don’t see this for the braptor. Are the Eibachs the only game in town? Can anyone report on the road ride quality? Roads where I live can be chattery. Suggestions appreciated. TIA

Welcome!

Searching doesn't always give us what we need. Someone here will have some answers!

Look forward to hearing about your adventures.

The search here isn’t very helpful…. I have the Hypercoil 2”/1” springs.

Ride was better than expected with OEM 37” C-rated K02s. Ride got a little stiffer when I went to 38” D rated tires shortly after. After my experience and reading other posts the load rating and texture pressure you run may have as much or more impact on ride comfort than the springs….. I like the Hypercoils with 38Ds and +6 rims, but I have no experience with the Eibachs to judge them. Leaned to Hypercoil as I didn’t want to add more lift than necessary.

This thread might help…

What tire did you go with for the D rated? I believe a BFG? I just started looking at them.

Finding out if it is D rated is like pulling teeth.

I have a 38”x13.5 D rated Falken Wildpeak R/T01

From my research you can get a BFG 37”x12.5 D rated K02, they also come in C rated like OEM. The D rated are raised white letter.

I didn’t consider any other 37” tires so not sure what else may be D rated.

I wanted 38x12.5 D rated, but they don’t exist. Nitto has a 38x12.5 C rated.

Not a lot of choices at 38”.

What height, width and load rating is your goal?

Thanks John. So a 2/1 lift fits your 38’s fine? Any trimming needed? And what was the wheel width and offset? I have 0 offsets on the outer banks and they stick out more than expected. I’d like to end up flush with the fenders on a 13.5 wide tire if possible as long as my steering components aren’t stressed.

Thanks John,

At this point I am going to put on the KO2 37x12.50R17/C 116S FOR - OEM for the spare and call it a day or perhaps switch all the tires to KO2 37x12.50R17/D 124R RWL depending on availability and if I want to spend the cash now or hold out for awhile with these tires. I will make the decision tomorrow just before I get my oil change and the new OEM KO2 for the spare tire. Perhaps if they can order five new D rated I just may do that. My tires are getting pretty chewed.

Thanks again.

Thanks for research info. that helps. No lift here so stick with the 37s.

My set up is the 38”x13.5” D Rated Falken mounted on 17”x8.5” +6 Icon Rebound Pros with 2”/1” Hypercoils mounted with Foutz zero lift Top Hats. No trimming.

Zero rubbing on street. I’ve flexed out on a 24” tall boulder and cleanses were still good front and back. That’s static, in dynamic situation with the shocks compressing suddenly results may vary. It’s snowing in the mountains so I haven’t been on a lot of rocks.

Given the significant extra weight from 38s and being wider I also went to a 74 weld steering box and billet tie rods. Overkill, but I’m off road a lot and enjoy driving home.

With the 13.5 wide tires and +6 rims, I’ve increased the width at each corner about 1.6” (0.5” from tire and 1.1” from rim). I think you’ll have to accept some poke, if you want to run 13.5” with no rubbing.

Here’s a quick pic of the rear wheel poke.

if you want save a couple bucks, get the D rated K02 for your spare now and replace the other 4 later. The D rated will work fine as a spare if one of your OEMs gives up the ghost. Then buy 4 more at that point. My recollection was that both K02s were readily available here.

Thanks, bit the bullet and ordered 5 D rated BFG's tires, they will send the one C rated back. I had an oil change and was going to get one C rated put on the spare today. I was looking at my tires and two are really chewed up. It doesn't seem worth it to hang on.

It seems the D rated shouldn't be a lot stiffer. I am also running fast on some really rough terrain. Most aren't, so going to the D's makes sense. I think I will probably run at 35 PSI and not 38 PSI.

I know you have a different tires. I am hoping the D rated BFG's don't make too big of a difference with the ride.
